Bifocal lenses enable you to address two different vision problems with two different prescriptions, all within the same lens. This makes life easier for many of our clients, saving them the hassle of switching glasses between tasks.

If you require two different prescriptions to help address your vision problems, such as help in seeing both close-up and long distance for example, then you may find that bifocals are a great lens option for you.

Bifocal lenses are created by bonding together the two different prescriptions within one lens. The upper half of the lens is typically used for distance vision, such as when driving or watching TV, with a specific prescription from your optometrist inserted into this area. The lower half of the lens, or a small segment in the lower half of the lens, will then be created to help you see the things near to you clearly - like reading a book. The lower lens segment that is devoted to near vision correction can also be crafted into different shapes, such as a half moon, a round circle, a narrow rectangular area, or the full bottom half of the lens - whatever best matches the way you will use your glasses, and your lifestyle.

What are the benefits of bifocal lenses?

  • Rather than having two pairs of single-vision glasses, bifocal lenses can be a more convenient solution as they combine all your vision needs into one pair of glasses. This saves you from having to switch from one pair to the next

  • Office workers can benefit from wearing bifocal lenses, so they can have distance vision in the top of the lens for meetings or presentations, and near vision in the segment for looking at your computer screen or at documents.

  • In years gone by, bifocal lenses have been a thicker and more clunky lens, but recent advances in optical technology have meant that lenses are now available in a range of thinner options, to provide you with comfort and performance
